“Spending an hour with the students at Dr. Jorge Alvarez High School in Providence went by far too fast. Participating in the Junior Achievement mentor moment through JA Launch Lesson was a powerful reminder of the importance of building a bridge between the professional world and the classroom.

During my visit, I shared the trajectory of my own life and career, from Roxbury, Mass to being recognized by President Barack Obama for my work, becoming the Entrepreneur in Residence at Brown University, and competing and operating tech startups at the
highest levels. I spoke about how giving back is an important part of my life and has played a tremendous role in my journey. However, the true highlight wasn’t my own story: it was theirs. I was deeply impressed by the students’ engagement, interest, and sophistication, particularly the work they’ve done on their stock market investment project. Their ability to navigate complex financial concepts showed a level of preparation and curiosity that is truly remarkable.

I walked away from this mentor moment with a profound sense of optimism. I wasn’t just in a classroom; I was in the presence of future leaders with powerful visions for their lives. These students aren’t just dreaming of success, they are equipping themselves to have a tangible, positive impact on our society. Witnessing their drive firsthand confirms that when we invest our time in JA, we are investing in a brighter, more innovative global economy.”
